Marta Jaremko, born in Wroclaw, Poland, lives and works in Delmar, NY.
BA in English Literature, MFA in Painting, and nine years of half-hearted studies at a musical conservatory. Passionate about painting, adjunct faculty at SUNY's Empire State College, she's worked representationally for many years, dealing with the immigrant experience and the roles that power, gender and culture play in contemporary society. In recent years, her work has gravitated toward smaller and more abstracted paintings in which references to the human form are at best oblique. Rebuke of scale has both stylistic and political implications. A nonparticipant of social media, she thinks of Wordsworth's poem "The World is Too Much With Us", as one of her guiding principals in how to live a sane life in contemporary society.
